Is This Art

There are so many strange things that happen when you are dealing with the public. Folks often ask funny questions at shows and I rarely have that perfect answer until to late, then I am so bummed I didn't think of the great come back/answer at the time but not last weekend. Last weekend someone came up to the booth and asked if I thought of myself as an artist and drum roll please ............................................................ I said no I am just unemployed.  LOL  I don't even know where that came from it just popped out of my mouth before I could even stop it.  I don't normally go around calling myself an artist, jewelry designer yes, lampworker yup, interior decorator NEVER.  You get the idea it just isn't how I think of myself. Are my creations art?  I have a sticker on the side of my traveling jewelry case that says "This Is Art". When I purchased the sticker I though it was kind of funny but now that I have been asked if I am an artist I am taking it a bit more serious.  I love my work or I wouldn't make it but honestly art is in the eye of the beholder, if you think it's art great if you don't that's fine I don't mind.  Not everyone can love everything and that's what makes the world go round :)

I have made a bunch of these BeadBugs and they are a bit of a pain to build but I just love their quirky smile and shoe laces.
They stand around 2 inches tall to give you an idea of there size.

  3. I'd call that art--and I do think of you as a jewelry artist. I suppose this piece proves your range goes beyond jewelry too! You are even known among my extended family, who have enjoyed some of your pieces as gifts. They know that you do not just design jewelry, but you are "the one who makes her own everything!" :-)

  4. When I first started doing glass... late 80's I used to get.. "when are you going to get a real job" from friends and relatives... do that not realize that a self employed person works 24 hours a day 7 days a week!

    That bug is adorable!

  5. This is clearly art to me, and like your other work, it makes me very happy. So, to me, you are an artist. I know it's a relative term, but I think it takes us longer to acknowledge it ourselves than it does for others to recognize it!
